FAQ - Frequently asked questions on electromagnetic radiation and novonic® E-Blocker
- WHAT IS ELECTROSMOG?
Electrosmog is an artificial word used to describe electromagnetic radiation. It refers to the electromagnetic fields created by power lines, radio and mobile phone transmitters, mobile phones themselves and radio applications such as WLAN or Bluetooth.
- WHAT EFFECT DO ELECTROMAGNETIC FIELDS HAVE ON THE BODY?
High-frequency electromagnetic waves of the type created by mobile phone systems are partially reflected by the body, partially absorbed and converted into heat. Research by leading institutes has shown that electromagnetic radiation may have a negative impact on people's health.
- WHAT TYPES OF ELECTROSMOG ARE THERE?
There are high-frequency and low-frequency fields. 'Low-frequency' refers to fields with frequencies up to 30 kHz. Mains power systems in Europe have a frequency of only 50 Hz. Low-frequency fields are connected with cables. Mobile applications use high-frequency fields with frequencies up to 300 GHz.
- CAN YOU PROTECT YOURSELF FROM RADIATION?
Even people who do not have a mobile phone cannot protect themselves completely from electromagnetic radiation. Wherever you can use a mobile phone, there is an electromagnetic field. However, you can reduce your exposure by using shielding fabrics such as novonic E-Blocker.
- IS ELECTROMAGNETIC RADIATION DANGEROUS?
In Germany, the limits for radiation exposure are laid down in the 26th Pollution Control Regulation. Apart from its thermal effects, the radiation emitted by a mobile phone also has a non-thermal effect. It has been alleged that this effect may cause changes to cells. The thermal effect means that the body cannot regulate the energy adsorbed and converts it into heat. It has been reported that the non-thermal effects may cause changes in the cell metabolism. Further research in this area is in progress. However, leading scientists have already spoken out in favour of the responsible use of mobile phones.
- WHAT IS PULSED RADIATION?
Mobile phones do not emit a continuous signal but an intermittent signal to the base station. A signal is transmitted every 4.615 milliseconds, or 217 times per second, 217 Hz. Critics allege that this pulsed radiation is responsible for a variety of detrimental effects.
- WHAT CAN I DO TO PROTECT MYSELF FROM ELECTROMAGNETIC RADIATION?
In your personal surroundings, you should eliminate radiation sources as far as possible. When they are switched on, mobile phones should be kept as far away from the body as practicable. If possible, use land lines. You can also reduce your exposure in the area of your head by using a headset. The use of shielding fabrics like novonic E-Blocker helps minimize radiation exposure.
- CAN HIGH-FREQUENCY RADIATION CAUSE CANCER?
There are certain grounds for suspicion on the basis of a number of studies. To date, no firm scientific evidence has been found. However, it is worth remembering that mobile radio technology has not been in use for very long and a well-founded investigation will only be possible over a longer period. For this reason, it certainly makes sense to take care.
- ARE MOBILE PHONES DANGEROUS?
A number of scientific studies are being conducted to investigate the link between mobile phone use and cancer. Doctors do not exclude the possibility that electromagnetic radiation may be connected with headache or sleeping problems. However, there is no scientific proof as yet.
- HOW DO CHILDREN AND YOUNG PEOPLE REACT TO ELECTROSMOG?
Doctors assume that the bodies of children and young people who have not yet completed their development react more sensitively than those of adults, This is why even more intensive precautions should be taken for children and young people.
- WHAT IS THE RADIATION OF A MOBILE PHONE LIKE, COMPARED TO THE BASE STATION?
Mobile phones are mobile transmitters. In contrast to a base station, mobile phones emit radiation near to the body and the energy levels are therefore considerable higher. The energy emitted 50 metres away from a base station is about the same as the energy emitted during a five-minute mobile phone call.
- WHAT IS novonic E-Blocker?
novonic E-Blocker is a newly developed fabric with outstanding shielding properties. Using novonic E-Blocker and a headset, you can almost completely avoid the thermal effect (SAR) of a mobile phone. Leading experts such as the scientists at Germany's University of the Armed Forces have confirmed that this fabric has outstanding shielding properties.
- DOES novonic E-Blocker CHANGE THE WEARING PROPERTIES OF CLOTHING?
novonic E-Blocker can be washed or dry-cleaned without losing any of its effect. novonic E-Blocker is normally located under the lining of a garment and you cannot feel it at all.
- WILL novonic E-Blocker MAKE IT MORE DIFFICULT TO USE MY MOBILE PHONE?
If a mobile phone were entirely surrounded by novonic E-Blocker, it could not receive any signal at all. However, shielding on one side between the mobile phone and the body has no effect at all on the proper functioning of a mobile phone.
